Chillin’ on the lawnOn the night of Wednesday, September 10, 2003 I was exercising in a hotel exercise room in the Dallas, Texas area. At that time I was working as a consultant and traveled most weeks. I had started an exercise regimen to lose weight to see if I could decrease or eliminate my high blood pressure and the medication I took for it. It was a little later than I usually liked to exercise and I decided to decrease the time I exercised but increase the intensity. I worked for about 20 minutes on the stationary bicycle and then did some resistance exercises on the weight equipment.

I completing my abbreviated exercise session around 10:00PM, left the gym and headed toward the elevator. I noticed that I was sweating more than usual and it was more of a cold sweat. I also noticed that my heart rate seemed like it wasn’t coming down. Overall, I wasn’t feeling too well. It was time for my nightly call to my wife, so I called her and told her I wasn’t feeling well and if I didn’t feel better soon I would probably call the paramedics. My wife thinks I’m a bit of a hypochondriac, so I’m sure if I could have seen her, she would have been rolling her eyes.

I got to my room and laid down on the bed for a few minutes. I was still sweating profusely and felt quite clammy. I knew that the feeling was not normal and I was probably having a heart attack. I called 911 and said I might be having a heart attack. I then called my wife to tell her that I had called the paramedics. Within a short period of time the paramedics arrived. The first thing they did is have me chew up four baby aspirins. They took my pulse and blood pressure and then…
